Anyone who collects vinyl, or even owns a few dusty old albums that get an occasional spin, knows the value of a “Best Of” record.
If assembled well, those albums compile an artist’s most vital tracks — not just a collection of their greatest hits but also deep cuts that showcase their versatility and reach. Taken together, they’re a distillation of that musician’s essence, a 12-inch slab offering a comprehensive overview of their career.
We like to think of the Current’s annual Best of San Antonio issue in the same way. While we don’t recommend trying to play it on your turntable, it’s like a “Best Of” record in that it documents the essence of San Antonio at this point in time. Consider it a look at the runaway hits — and the worthwhile deep tracks — in dining, nightlife, shopping and more.
And we know this collection is solid because the BOSA winners are selected by you, our readers. You value them, praise them and recognize just what they represent to the Alamo City. The winners are chosen solely by popular vote and without the need for us to weigh in with Critics’ Picks. The Current’s editorial staff offers plenty of commentary in our other issues. This time, it’s all about hearing from you.
Of course, even the most carefully compiled “Best Of” album has standout tracks and those we may choose to skip over. Likewise, with BOSA, you may disagree with your fellow readers’ choices in some categories and wonder how they could overlook your particular favorite.
But, hey, that’s fine. Tastes in retail stores, restaurants and SA cultural icons are subjective — kind of like musical tastes. At the end of the day, the votes of our fellow residents help us better understand our city’s culture right now, and the directions in which it’s headed.
So, thanks for helping expertly compile an issue that truly reflects the “Best of San Antonio 2025.” Keep it on the top of the pile and get it out for a spin anytime you need to kick back and learn more about what our amazing city has to offer.
All the best,
